As of today, we think we are out of the negative temperatures and the single digits for this winter. There is still snow everywhere, but it is not so frigidly cold anymore. I wish we could send some of these piles of snow to our friends in Utah as we hear that you are all having a rather warm winter. We went out to our favorite walking nature parks over the last couple of days and caught some photos of the fun that the natives are having here. Ice-skating, cross-country skiing, sledding and snow sculptures were enjoyed by many. We also saw some outdoor ice hockey.
I know I am playing catch up here again as I haven’t been writing every week. We spend an awful lot of time on the road giving people rides and visiting the far out reaches of our area. We did have another baptism that Elder Glenn was asked to perform for an older man here in Laval. That was about 2 weeks ago. Brian, our newest member, is excited to be a part of the community here in the church. We also got to take Alphonse and his daughter, Lauraine, to the temple for baptisms a few weeks ago. Today, Loraine gave her first talk in church and she was amazing. She is 17 and has been attending seminary class, at 6 am via zoom, since before she was baptized. She would like to go on a mission in a year or so. Our sister missionaries have had a blast teaching her because she was so ready to hear and accept the gospel. Her father, Alphonse is also a great missionary.
Sis. Miller, the tall one in our photos, is heading home this week. We will miss her as she has been a dynamic missionary. She really went all out to find people to teach and to find creative ways to help and support our Chomedey members.
Finally, we are nearly finished with the temple preparation class that 3 of our members are taking. We hope to get all three of them to the temple before we head home. I know Heidi and Abiola will be ready. Our friend, Bernie loves to take us missionaries out to lunch and this week he took us to his favorite ribs place. We have also enjoyed having our missionaries from our district over for a P-day afternoon of games. That was our last time to see Elder Nielson as his visa came through and he was able to head off to his mission in Peru. We sponsored another potluck linger longer here in the branch. It seems to be a favorite activity and works well for those who live far from the chapel.
So, this is short and sweet. We love and miss you all and are looking forward to Spring with enthusiasm.
